In the old Russian Empire, the rich and powerful manufactured and weaponized anti-Semitism to ward off the socialist challenge to their power. “The socialism of fools” as it was dubbed, involved blaming “the Jews” for the degradations imposed on working people by capitalism. And that anti-Semitism drove hundreds of thousands of Jews to migrate to NYC. Strange historical echo, then, how 120 years later in NYC, the rich and powerful weaponize FEAR OF anti-Semitism in hopes of warding off a socialist challenge to their power.
