Thank you for the clarity processing strategy with the end game in mind contoured by the tactics determined by context and the emergent, temporal nature of allies who may/will be on the struggle path, partially so.
Bernie corrals well-meaning people into a corporate duopoly and that’s all he’s actually accomplished, especially by supporting the cheaters in 2016 without a single demand. Will I ally with him on stopping arms sales to Israel? Of course. I will ally with people on anything to do good. The fact is, Bernie is still a Zionist and wants ethnosupremacy in Palestine and refuses to support those who want to dismantle it. He had protesters of the genocide thrown out of his fight the oligarchy rallies, mind you.
It's not the PLO leadership, it's the Palestinian Authority which has overshadowed the PLO but technically is not at all the same, nor vested with the mandate of the PLO. The PLO is the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and as you probably know the Palestinian Authority is an Oslo Accords product that thinks it is a legitimate government when we all know it's a puppet. Unfortunately Western governments are all too willing to maintain this corrupt puppetry.
Yeah, though as you say, in the post Oslo years the PA essentially absorbed the PLO. Still, re the partition (two-state) concept, didn't the PLO leadership (Arafat) make clear in late 1988 that the organization's Algiers declaration effectively committed it to the existence of Israel alongside a Palestinian state?
They committed to accepting the existence of Israel.
The PA has tried to dismantle the PLO and that is widely unacceptable to Palestinians the world over. Because of the PA’s unpopularity the PLO is still considered the only legitimate representative of the Palestinian People.
I think it recognized the Israeli state and may have adopted the now practically impossible-to-implement 2ss. But the PA has illegitimately tried to take over and claim it has the PLO mandate which it has not succeeded in doing. It has only used underhanded means to try and do that, and to avoid elections to agree with Israel's desires for a status quo (and its own corrupt hanging on to power -- knowing full well they are very unpopular and would tank at the polls).
An astute and insightful piece indeed! Perhaps the logic of finding common cause at a tactical level extends beyond the Bernie Sanders types - to figures such as Tucker Carlson, MGT even though there are several things to disagree with them on?
